Modern country group BROKEDOWN CADILLAC--known for their upbeat country rock blend that’s highlighted by CORRI ENGLISH’s forthright lead vocals and shimmering harmonies--will be prominently spotlighted in an upcoming episode of CW’s popular teen cheerleading drama “Hellcats,” airing Wednesday, December 1 at 9/8c. The Nashville-based group shot their performance scene in Vancouver, and four of their original songs are featured in the episode--“Bring It On,” “Good Day For A Long Night,” “Baby’s Gonna Start A Fire” and “Chasing The Moon”--that includes a dance-off scene with the show’s stars Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka. Earlier this season, the group that Country Weekly described as “energetic, instantly likable” (6/22/09) had their songs “Can You Hear Me” and “Let It Ride” used in two separate “Hellcats” episodes.

BROKEDOWN CADILLAC will also be included in an upcoming “Hellcats” 80s-themed five-song compilation disc with their cover of Sweet’s “The Ballroom Blitz.” Available digitally December 1 via Warner Brothers Records, the CD will also feature music from “Hellcats” actresses Michalka, Tisdale, Sharon Leal, Heather Hemmens and Michalka’s group 78 Violet.

“Hellcats” isn’t the first national primetime show to air original BROKEDOWN CADILLAC material. On October 3, 2010 the ABC hit show “Desperate Housewives” incorporated “Love On The Run,” another track off the band’s 2009 debut LP Somewhere In America. Even before releasing an album, the five-piece attracted early attention with an on-screen performance in the Walt Disney Pictures film Race To Witch Mountain starring Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino. Two of the five songs included in the movie--“Southern Nights” and “Boogie Woogie Saturday Night”--appeared on the digital soundtrack from Walt Disney Records. Beyond that, BROKEDOWN CADILLAC--lead singer CORRI ENGLISH, guitarist and main songwriter RANDY DUNHAM, drummer DANNY REULAND, lead guitarist DON IAN and bassist JEFF LEGORE--will once again travel overseas December 5-14 to Iraq and Kuwait for a holiday tour to entertain the troops, their third trip in one year. This is something the band feels passionately about as they have also performed here in the U.S. at various bases for those serving at home.

“All of us in the band have close ties to the military and we are so honored that they have asked us to come back,” says ENGLISH. “We love going over there and bringing those brave men and women a little piece of home. The response has been so positive and we appreciate all the emails, letters and comments!”

In other BROKEDOWN CADILLAC news, the group has partnered with Nashville producer/songwriter Danny Myrick who has co-penned several hit singles including “International Harvester” for Craig Morgan, "How Far Do You Wanna Go" for Gloriana and his most recent #1 “She’s Country” by Jason Aldean. ENGLISH and DUNHAM are writing, recording and gigging in Nashville with plans to release a new BROKEDOWN CADILLAC album early 2011.

Hey peeps! So..... as I mentioned in the last post, we had featured tunes on back-to-back episodes of Hellcats!! The songs are "Can You Hear Me" and "Let it Ride," and they are both available on iTunes so go get em! You can also listen to full versions of the songs on our youtube channel!

We also just got word that we will have a song on next week's Desperate Housewives! We're big fans of the show so we're very excited - it'll be "Love on the Run" from our first album so keep an ear out!

I also had the opportunity to head out to NYC recently and be a part of the Heathers: The Musical Concert series at Joe's Pub! Would I miss the chance to rock blue eyeshadow and ginormous hair? Um.....not a chance!! The pic above is a "self-portrait" in the dressing room before the show- I'm with Christine Lakin, Alex Ellis, and Annaleigh Ashford - awesome ladies from the cast! And yes, that is all my real hair. Hello teasing brush! I know, it's scary.

The show is fantastic - it's from Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde) & Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness) and directed by Andy Fickman - and the show is a total riot. I'd tell you some of the lines I got to say but my mom would probably wash my mouth out with soap, so you'll just have to see it for yourself! But it stays very true to the original film so you get the idea.....!

Brokedown Cadillac Releasing 2 new singles!

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a fantastic summer, we have been busy writing and recording and we're so excited to finally share some of our new tunes!

So, here's the dealio......

The CW has a brand new show called "Hellcats" - it's a super fun show and stars Ashley Tisdale and Aly Michalka. Now for the really fun part (or at least we think so!) - 2 brand new Brokedown Cadillac songs will premiere on back-to-back weeks of Hellcats! Memorial Day - Take One Minute to Remember

It's Memorial Day. It's a day that is mostly associated with a three-day weekend, a day off from school, bbqs, jet skis, a big sale at Macy's, and lots and lots of beer..... And that's all great stuff - we have done plenty of that, and we'll do it again today. But it's not why the holiday was established, so just make sure that amidst all the drinking and relaxation, you take a moment to remember the meaning of the day. It's to commemorate our fallen soliders. Perhaps, having just been to Iraq, it feels more poignant - and that's why we wanted to send this reminder.

For just one minute - at 3pm, participate in the National Moment of Remembrance. It doesn't matter what you're doing - just stop..... And if you are a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent - tell your kiddos what that moment of silence is about, so that we can spread the message of remembrance to a younger generation. Also keep in your thoughts the men and women who are far from home, in hostile territory, who do not get the day off, because doing so would mean jeopardizing our freedom.

Have a great day enjoying the suspension from work.....while also remembering why we're commemorating today.

And if you see a man or woman in uniform - today and everyday - take the time to say thank you.

Nashville Flood

Hey guys. I just wanted to do a post about this because the amount of media coverage the flood and subsequent damage in Nashville has been getting doesn't reflect how bad it is..... I am in LA right now and had only heard that it was "raining a lot." Until I searched for myself and saw the videos/pictures.....it's so sad. I swear, I cannot remember a period of time when there have been so many natural disasters. Maybe Mama Earth is mad at us and this is her way of telling us to take better care of her. I don't know- but I do realize that you all probably feel tapped out by donating to other disasters, and that's coupled with the crappy economy, of course.... But I just wanted to help raise awareness, and I'm also including a link to a great article that includes ways to help. One of the easiest things you can do is text REDROSS to 90999 to donate $10. A song for Sister!

So, as many of you know my little, er "younger" (she never liked being called little, and, okay, she is taller than me....) sister got married this past February to an awesome guy, and they had a truly kickass wedding! I was the maid of honor, and I express myself best through song, so I wrote a little diddy for my toast.... A bunch of folks who were there requested that we post it on Youtube, and my dad just sent over the footage, so here it is! I've included a pic of the happy couple. I know, I know....it looks like a photo from the cover of a wedding magazine - that is the work of my amazingly talented friend Inda Reid, who did all the pics. Plus the bride and groom ain't bad to look at! So, I am dedicating this blog entry to Sister and Brother..... I love you both to pieces and then some.

Time to start packing, Brokedown's heading back to Iraq!

Hey guys! So, as many of you know, we spent last Thanksgiving over in Kuwait Iraq performing for the troops, and we are BEYOND thrilled and honored to have been invited back this April! We felt like the last trip flew by so quickly, so we jumped at the invitation to go again. We'll be heading over for a 10-day tour, and have been busy writing some new stuff and working hard to get a great show together for all the guys and gals over there.
We'll be reuniting with the Hooters girls again, so I'm sure all the boys will be psyched about that! I've been practicing the pose (see above photo).....actually, even Randy's been working on it - I think he's ready, what do you think?

And Danny has been practicing looking like he has a tiny head. It's an important skill.
The only thing I'm dreading is packing.... I'm a horrible packer! I am so meticulous about rolling things up into teeny tiny space saving bundles....sounds great in theory, but once you take things out the first time, they just never go back in. Every time I swear I will not overpack, but you should see the stack of stuff that I am expecting to go into one bag....it's like the clown car, but, ya know, the duffel bag version..... Ugh. Can someone just come over and pack for me? Any takers?
Anywho, we are SO excited to see the badassness of our troops in action again!
And for all you guys and gals over there working your booties off in the desert - get ready to shake your stuff, we're gonna have some fun! Can't wait to see you! xoxoxo

Sorry I haven't written in a while, it's been a crazy couple of months! But I should be back on track now!
I wanted to give a big thank you to Sean Arenas and Diana Diaz, who came out to our show at Molly Malone's a few weeks ago. They said some really nice things about us in their reviews, which we really appreciate! Check out the articles below.....

Country goodness in the middle of LA, Brokedown Cadillac at Molly Malone's 1/30/09

A country band performing in an Irish bar in the middle of Los Angeles? Why not? L. A.'s odd pastiche of people means anything goes. Dig deep enough and history shows that Los Angeles was once the mythic Wild West with shootouts and stagecoach races on downtown streets. Before movies and red carpets, ranchos and cattle populated the Hills and the Valley. A few line dancing bars can be found in the outskirts of town, and San Dimas is the home of a yearly rodeo.

Brokedown Cadillac's lead singer, Corrie English, presents herself with Southern charm, a rarity in the Los Angeles area. It makes her that much more watchable. She's an actress who has appeared as a guest star in recognizable shows like Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, Without a Trace, NCIS, and CSI Miami. She's even appeared in a few feature films. All and that and she can sing.

These days English's favorite role is performing with Brokedown Cadillac and being a songwriter. She also cowrote the song "Fly Away," which appeared on Sugarland's triple platinum debut album.

English's honey-inflected mezzo voice regales the audience with sincerity and sweetness. When she sings of being angry at a boss and wanting him to kiss her ________, not only does she stop from singing the word, she retracts saying it's not her style. We had a super fun time at Camp Taji in Iraq, and someone just posted this video from our show there - it was such a great night! I was so bummed because I had a camera issue the night of this show and I don't have any footage, so this was fun to see! If anyone else has Taji footage let us know, we'd love to have more!

Hello all! So, I have been getting a lot of questions about why we chose to go and visit the troops in the Middle East, and so I just wanted to tell you a bit about that.... I have a bunch of family in the military, as does the rest of the band. Both of my grandfathers fought in World War II, my dad's uncle lost an eye in the Battle of Normandy, my dad spent a year in Vietnam, and my dad's brother was in the service as well, my mom's brother is a doctor in the Navy, and my sister is engaged to a Navy man, and that doesn't count the numerous friends of mine, or the family and friends the rest of the band has in the military.... I am always thinking about what it must be like over there, being away from home, in such an uncertain and isolated environment, and myself and the band, we really wanted to find a way to say thank you.... we were thrilled at the chance to go over for the Thanksgiving holiday and say thank you in person. It makes me so emotional just thinking about all these guys sacrifice for us - they are essentially giving up their freedom to protect ours. It is freaking amazing and I cannot even put into words the admiration, respect, and love I feel for these men and women. I will be writing more about what the experience was like and sharing stories, pictures, and video that I took from the trip, but for right now I just want to say to all those we had the honor the meet, and also to those we didn't get to, to all of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines- thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I also want to give a big thanks to Christine Lakin and Andrew Roy - it was really these two that made this opportunity possible, and we are eternally grateful! The tour flew by and we were not ready to leave - in that desolate, dusty desert, those guys gave us the trip of a lifetime!! We love you!!!

Party in the USA!

This is a video of one of my favorite moments of the tour. Some guys came to our first show in Baghdad at Camp Stryker and then came back for the second one at Camp Liberty.... our show was at 8pm and they had lawn chairs and near beer out by the time we did our sound check at 4:30! They were so cool, and so when they requested Party in the USA during the show, well, I thought we should make it happen! As a side note, I should mention that there is no alcohol in Iraq, only non-alcoholic beer (well, except for the moonshine I've heard tell of)! So this is a completely sober performance - props to you Gavin, you rocked it!

The Adventures of Socky!

This is SUCH a cool and touching story so we wanted to share it with ya'll! We had the pleasure to meet Lt. Col. James E. Turnbull (Eric) at Camp Stryker, and he had a strange request - for us to take a picture with a tiny little sock!? Well as it turns out, he has a little girl named Faith, and when he traveled over to Iraq, one of her socks ended up with his things. So, he named the sock "Socky," and now he takes it everywhere he goes, takes pictures with it, and sends stories about Daddy and Socky's adventures back home to Faith! How sweet is that! We are excited to report that Brokedown was included in the Thanksgivng edition, so here it is - "Socky's Thanksgiving!" Eric - thank you for sharing this with us, you are a great dad!!

Socky’s Thanksgiving

Once upon a time…in a hot, dusty country far away from the home in Pennsylvania, one of Faith’s socks spent her days hanging on the wall in front of Daddy’s desk in Iraq.

One day Daddy came in with a question for Socky.

“Socky!” said Daddy “Do you know what day it is today?”

“Sure Daddy, it’s Thursday November 26th 2009. I know because there is a calendar on the wall right next to me. Why do you ask?” inquired Socky.

“Well, you’re right about the date. But did you know it’s Thanksgiving Day?” stated Daddy.

“Thanksgiving? What’s that?” asked Socky.

“It’s a day we celebrate to give thanks for all the wonderful things we have in life” said Daddy.

“What are you thankful for Daddy?” asked Socky.

“Well Socky, I’m thankful for Mommy and Faith and also for being from a great country where we live in freedom.”

“I’m thankful too Daddy. I’m thankful to be able to keep you company here in Iraq,” laughed Socky. “So what are we going to do on Thanksgiving Daddy?”

“Well, we’re going to call home, eat a nice dinner, go to a concert, watch some football…”

“A concert!” yelled Socky, “What concert are we going to see? I love concerts.”

“We’re going to see a modern country band called “BrokeDown Cadillac,” said Daddy.

“That’s sounds like fun Daddy. I’m going to start Thanksgiving by calling home” said Socky.

Socky called home and talked with Mommy, Faith and her twin sock Stripey. Afterwards she searched her IPOD for “BrokeDown Cadillac” songs.

Daddy and Socky then got in the Kia van and drove on the bumpy roads around Victory Base. They stopped at Daddy’s room so he could change clothes. On the way they picked up Socky’s good friend Private Picklepants. He was happy that they invited him to Thanksgiving dinner.After Daddy changed clothes, he along with Socky and Private Picklepants walked to the Camp Stryker Dining Hall.

One thing to note is that Iraq is a bit chilly in November and is also muddy because after it rains the water has nowhere to go. They managed not to get too dirty though.

They arrived at the Dining Hall and went to get their Thanksgiving meal. Inside eating dinner with the service men and women were several “Hooters Girls.” They came to Iraq to visit the troops and spend Thanksgiving with them. It was such a nice gesture and everyone appreciated them making the trip.

They could have easily stayed home with their families, but chose instead to come over and bring some holiday cheer and a bit of America with them.

Everyone enjoyed a great Thanksgiving meal and was quite full when they finished eating.

By now it was time to go see the show. Daddy, Socky and Private Picklepants walked over to the concert area and found a great place to stand near the front of the stage. The band “BrokeDown Cadillac” played lots of great songs and the “Hooter’s Girls” danced with the service men. Both the band and the “Hooters Girls” thanked all the troops for their service and told them how proud and thankful everyone in America is for all they are doing over here.

“BrokeDown Cadillac” is a great band” exclaimed Socky “ I really like their music. I must be a “country sock.” she said with a giggle.

When the concert ended, the band and “Hooters Girls” met everyone attending and posed for pictures. They especially liked holding Socky.

Afterwards, Daddy, Socky and Private Picklepants went to watch some football. Since Iraq is eight hours ahead of the East coast, the games didn’t start until late. During half time, Private Picklepants challenged Socky to a pushup contest, but she was tired and wanted to take a nap. Private Picklepants got the hint that it was time to leave, so he thanked Daddy and Socky for such a fun evening and said goodbye.

After Socky woke up from her nap, she and Daddy went to the gym to work off their Thanksgiving dinner. Socky weighed herself on the scale and was happy to see she hadn’t gained any weight. In fact she still didn’t weigh anything.

Daddy and Socky left the gym and talked about all the fun they had on Thanksgiving.

They appreciated “BrokeDown Cadillac” and the “Hooters Girls” coming over to Iraq to spend the holiday with the troops and give them a great show.

“Daddy, I know we couldn’t be home to spend Thanksgiving with Mommy, Faith and Stripey, but I’m thankful for “BrokeDown Cadillac and the “Hooters Girls” who gave up the holiday with their families to be with us. They truly are America’s finest.” exclaimed Socky

“You’re right Socky. We’ll always remember our Thanksgiving in Iraq and how some great Americans made it feel like home.” said Daddy

And with that Daddy and Socky called it a night and the next day went back to work with lots of great memories of Thanksgiving 2009.

Hey there everyone! I am finally getting a little internet service so just wanted to say hello and let everyone know what an amazing time we are having over here! We have had the chance to meet so many awesome men and women and I can't wait to share our experience! I only have a minute here cause we are getting ready to play our last show of the tour, but I wanted to post a little tid-bit from the first show. This is a clip I took from the stage at Camp Buehring in Kuwait! Hey guys! So, we are extremely excited and honored for the opportunity to go overseas and visit the troops! I have a ton of family who are veterans or are currently serving in the military, as does the rest of the band, and we are always looking for ways to support the troops....so we jumped at the chance to go and perform for them in Iraq over Thanksgiving! We will be joined by 6 Hooters girls, which should be a blast - the guys in the band are certainly excited about those little orange shorts and, ya know, the "hooters." So I have to imagine that the men over there who have barely seen a woman in months will be over the moon! I have to admit I feel a little insecure in that poster - totally surrounded by hottie mamas. I'm thinking I'm gonna need to pack the serious push-up bra..... PS - I got much enjoyment from the fact that one of the girls is named "Sara Hoots" - I cannot wait to meet her and find out if that is her real name - and if it is her real name, did it influence her decision to become a Hooters girl? I need to know these things! A friend of mine was a Hooters girl in college and offered me the use of her old uniform - how funny would that be?? If I actually showed up for the first show in the outfit and just acted totally normal? Hmmm.... Anywho, the girls seem great and we're all super excited. I'll be documenting our trip with my camcorder, so make sure to check back here for updates and scoopage, and, of course, plenty of hooters!

Nashville-based country group BROKEDOWN CADILLAC have confirmed plans to perform for the troops during a Thanksgiving week tour of military bases in Iraq. The group—founded in California by singer CORRI ENGLISH and guitarist RANDY DUNHAM—will head overseas this week for the tour, which runs from November 21-30 and they will be joined by a select group of Hooters Girls from around the U.S.

English says, “All of us in the band have close ties to the military, and we're excited and honored for this opportunity. We feel like spending Thanksgiving with our troops, who can't be home with their families, is the best way we can say thank you for all that they do. We hope it is the first of many visits.”

I wanted to continue today with yesterday's featured artists, Brokedown Cadillac, mainly because they are awesome and also because the Q&A session below goes beyond country music as a genre. Check it out!

Country artist's don't get a lot of mainstream exposure...what's your plan for Brokedown Cadillac? Where do you see it going?

There are those in country music like Reba, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, and Shania who have broken into mainstream quite successfully. Taylor Swift has certainly captured the world's attention. And I believe they all brought something quite interesting to pop radio. All those artists have expertly stayed true to country in their own way, yet still provided plenty of music that your typical pop fan can appreciate and even want to buy. I think Brokedown follows along that tradition of pop country. We have real roots, you're not going to be able to refute that, but all of us come from a variety of tastes that tend toward mainstream music, and in the end, I think a broader spectrum of music fans will want to hear it.

Why country music? Why not another genre?

Randy: No matter what genre of music I've played, I've always found myself listening to country music. My dad raised me on a strict diet of country and western, and even when I was playing in rock bands, I was inevitably tuned to the country station. By the time I started working with Corri, I was so hyped about finally playing country that it just gushed out of me. It felt "right."

Corri: I was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga, so country music was always just music for me. Not really defined, you know. I grew up on it, and when Randy and I started writing, it was just so obvious that we shared a great love of the genre - it came out very naturally in the writing process.

What's been the hardest part about working in the music industry?

In this day and age all of the models are being reshaped. What used to work in the old days, sending in a crappy acoustic demo tape just doesn't cut it. And as the labels seem to be hemorrhaging, the internet is providing a whole new frontier. The down side is that with recording becoming so pervasive with every iMac shipped with Garage Band, there are millions of bands vying for consumers' attention. So what has changed has also stayed the same - a band needs some method for getting into the mainstream's awareness. That is about the most challenging quandary I've experienced to date.

Corri - You have a long list of acting credentials...Why the switch to music? Do you see yourself doing both? What inspired you to do music in the first place? Any musical inspirations? [old school/new school]

I definitely plan on doing both. Even though my acting has been the "real" career thus far, music has always been a huge part of my life, and trust me, anytime I had a break between acting jobs, I was writing and playing music... So it really doesn't even feel like a career switch for me, it just feels like I'm putting more focus on the other side of my career. My dad is definitely my biggest musical influence - he is a musician so I was around music from the time I was born, I literally played with tuning forks when I was a kid, and was on the road with his band while I was growing up. His band played original tunes but also covered the Everly Brother, Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis....I get really nostalgic when I hear "Glory Days" or "I Saw Her Standing There" - those are faves from childhood.

What songs are your favorite to perform/ Why?

Randy: I personally love "Baby's Gonna Start a Fire" because it is a straight up dance song. If we don't see people up dancing, then I measure it as our failure to capture the audience. We have had few shows where no one gets up and starts shaking their ass, but those few where we didn't see that happening, well we knew it was time to step up the game. It's a great barometer.

Corri: I love singing "Scarlett O'Hara." Being from Atlanta, when I read "Gone with the Wind" I fell in love with that character - she is so sassy, I just loved her. And I feel like the song captures that attitude and has a bluesy feel, which is just a lot of fun to dig into during a live show.

How was it working on the set and writing songs for Race to Witch Mountain?

Randy: Working on the set was the best experience of my life. Andy Fickman(the director) let all of our families come on to set, and we got to be little rock stars for a day. Seeing the pride in my mom's eyes practically brings me to tears. It was awesome. As far as writing for the movie, it was just great to see Andy get so excited about the music we were bringing him, and I think at about that time we really needed some enthusiasm because it was still rather new.

Corri: Ditto to what Randy said. Andy Fickman is ridiculously awesome! And to we got to have the most perfect show you could ask for - we had people doing our hair and makeup, a built in crowd who two-stepped to our music, and a track going to we never missed a note! Plus Dwayne Johnson was there so the scenery was nice!

Would you say the movie exposure has increased/changed your fan base?

Absolutely. We were able to expose a lot of folks to our music in a very short period of time, and that exposure has given us many great opportunities- from meeting new fans, to playing really cool shows that we would otherwise not have had the opportunity to play. It's been amazing.

What type of advice would you give aspiring musicians?

Randy: Work hard. Be dedicated. I don't know how anyone can possibly get anywhere musically without those two virtues. Beyond that, try not to hold your breath too long. Sometimes opportunities take a while, but when they come, boy you better be ready to step up to the plate.

Corri: Perseverance is key, not just in music, but in any kind of artistic career. And no matter how tough it gets, you gotta have fun - an audience can feel your energy in your voice, lyrics, stage presence - and if you feel it, they will feel it too, and keep on coming back.

Any concert dates or upcoming shows?

We've been touring Southern California Navy bases over the past 9 months, and we're getting ready to head out on a USO tour, which we are thrilled about. And 2010 will be all about playing the Southeast!

Country brings us a Brokedown Cadillac

It doesn't matter how you feel about country music there's always been an artist or song that drew you into it. For me, country music has always been a lyrical twang or western take on R&B. They both talk about relationships, heartbreak, and even faith. All you have to do is listen to the words and I promise you it's not always about a red pick up truck. Their lyrics encompass all cars...even broke down Cadillacs!

Recently I had the opportunity to talk and listen to country's newest band Brokedown Cadillac. You may not be familiar with them by name but you may know lead singer Corri English as an accomplished actress on shows like "CSI Miami" and "Without A Trace" or you may have seen the band itself make a cameo appearance in Disney's remake of "Race to Witch Mountain" of which they contributed five songs to.

If none of these things have jolted your memory then allow me to re-introduce country's newest music sensation Brokedown Cadillac. The group is fronted by seasoned songwriting team Corri English and Randy Dunham. Corri provides the lead vocals with Randy accompanying her in harmony and counter melody. Filling out the band is lead guitarist Don Ian, bassist Jeff Legorge and drummer Danny Reuland. Their self released debut album, Somewhere in America, features eleven songs all written by Corri and Randy exploring themes that are all easily relatable with the perfect blend of swing and country.

"Last Picture Show" shows Corri's range while she delivers some cleverly written lyrics. "Baby's Gonna Start a Fire" makes you want to get up and two step. It's also one of Randy's favorite songs to perform because "it's a straight up dance song. If we don't see people up dancing, then I measure it as our failure to capture the audience." My personal favorite is "Brokedown Cadillac" because its the first song on the album that introduced me to the band. Knowing that they self wrote, produced and promoted their own album made the lyrics even more memorable and sincere.

America's hottest new country act Brokedown Cadillac returns to LA tonight

It is not unusual for Hollywood to produce the next hot music star, however this time it has produced a new country music sensation. Brokedown Cadillac is fronted by a seasoned songwriting team of Corri English and Randy Dunham.
English has been around music her entire life. The daughter of a musician English was able to hone her talent into the masterpiece it is today.
I was on the road with my dad's band from the time I was like 6 weeks old and grew up playing with tuning forks. So I think when you're around it that long, it just comes natural," recalls English.
Brokedown Cadillac is taking things slowly, self producing their own album and doing much of their own promotion, making sure that they make the right decisions along the way.
"If you pick the wrong deal you can end up getting nowhere fast," English explains. "There was a time when labels would take on a new artist and do development and give it time to get out there and give the audience time to respond. "
Self producing your own music isn't all bad; it allows an artist to form their own destiny.
"People have such a slick product before the time it gets in the hands of the executives. Independent artists can do a lot on their own now. It allows you to hold on to creative control, the more you do yourself," English point out.
The band self-released their debut album "Somewhere in America" in March. Shortly thereafter they were featured in a major motion picture. Performing as a bar band in the Disney movie Race to Witch Mountain which allowed them to have two songs on the digital soundtrack.
The band is starting to pick-up steam and that suits English and Dunham just fine.
"We wanted to take things kind of slow, so we can do it right and we couldn't be happier with the way things have gone so far," English mentions.
The band spent the summer in Nashville writing new material and meeting with different agents, but is back in Los Angeles and ready to rock. Thursday night marks the bands return to Los Angeles as they take place in the McCarthur Park Concert series at Levitt Pavillion.

Who ever thought it would be cool to "tweet?" It's very strange isn't it? The last time I thought that was cool was when I was in elementary school and I started a club named "The Chicks" - it was inspired by a small toy chick I got for Easter who lived in my pencil box (am I dating myself here?) at school. The "chick" was our mascot and you could only peek inside the box at him if you were a member. It was a very exclusive club, very fancy. Very cool. Uh-huh. But anyway - back to twitter.....I admit, I was reluctant at first. I already felt overwhelmed trying to keep up with 2 myspace accounts, a couple of different facebooks pages, website, blog, and about 75 different email accounts......but, I started getting the question "do you tweet?" quite a bit - so I figured it was time. I joined a couple of months ago, so come on over and follow me. Okay, that is weird too - follow me? Very stalker-ish. But anywho, click here. I can't say that I am great about updates. I get very self concious. I start to write an update and then think - who actually cares that I am buying some toothpase or grabbing my second Starbucks of the day, and then erase what I've written....but I have vowed to get better, cause somebody might want to know that the Tom's toothpaste in spearmint is way less gross than the peppermint. Or that an iced tea with half green/half passion tea rocks, and has many health benefits to boot! So, there ya go.

Parkview high school grad Corri English spars with Cybill Shepherd in new Hallmark film

Corri English was already a minor acting star at Parkview High School when she attended the school in the 1990s. She had two shows on TBS: “Kidsbeat,” a news break during the morning cartoons, and “Feed Your Mind,” in which she travelled the world.

And like many actresses, she said she was “kind of shy” in high school.

“I moved there and all these little cliques had already formed,” she said Friday to promote her new Hallmark film Saturday at 9 p.m. starring Cybill Shepherd called “Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith.” “They nicknamed me ‘Kidsbeat.’ I was totally embarrassed by that!”

She said she recalled how much angst she had between doing TV and, say, cheerleading practice. “Now it seems like a no brainer," she mused. "Gotta scoot out of cheerleading!"

English, a University of Georgia grad, is one of those working actresses just trying to make an impression. Since moving to Los Angeles six years ago, she’s nabbed guest roles on “Joan of Arcadia,” “Without a Trace,” ‘CSI: Miami” and in her first regular gig, as a college student on the quickly forgotten WB series starring Matthew Modine called “Bedford Diaries.”

The twist of the show was that Modine was teaching a sex class and required the class to tape video confessionals about their sex lives. But as English admitted, the show was hamstrung by network queasiness about being “too” sexy. The show by its nature, she said, “was supposed to be edgy but in that environment, they cut a lot of scenes, which made some stories seem disjointed.” It lasted just eight episodes in 2006.

I had to ask her about what it was like working with Shepherd, who has a been known to have a bit of a diva complex when she was on “Moonlighting” and her own self-titled sitcom.

“There was a point I was teasing her of being spoiled,” English said. “She said, ‘Oh, honey. You should have seen me a couple of decades ago!’ She definitely makes light of her reputation. The great thing is she is who she is. She’s very self deprecating. She’ll be the first to tell you her flaws.”

Shepherd, during down time, was busy on the phone. “She was working deals left and right!” English said. “She’s really embracing the opportunities coming her way.”

Shepherd in the film plays a divorced woman with empty nest syndrome who decides to finish college and live in the dorms. She is joined by English’s rebellious, bitter character, who has her own mommy issues. Like a lot of these “Odd Couple” films, the two first clash, eventually become friends.

English is also a country musician who actually worked with Sugarland, Atlanta’s hot duo back when they were a trio. She even co-wrote a song on the band’s first album.

During the writers’ strike last year, she worked as lead vocalist in a band called Brokedown Cadillac with local Atlanta producer Jan Smith to create an EP. Several songs ended up in the film “Race to Witch Mountain” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

So she’s now of split minds. So she now does acting in Los Angeles and has bought a residence in Nashville as well.

“I’m in a transitional phase,” she said. “The music is becoming a bigger priority in my career. It’s something I’ve always wanted… I’m really embracing what’s happening. I’m in Nashville right now spending the summer setting up a home base there.”

'Last Picture Show' connects stars

Some things are just meant to be.

Actress Corri English moonlights as the lead singer of an alt-country band called BrokeDown Cadillac. The group's debut album, "Somewhere in America," was issued this year.

English, 31, landed a role in a Hallmark Channel film starring Cybill Shepherd, who made her film debut in 1971's "The Last Picture Show," taken from Larry McMurtry's book.

Now for the "meant to be" part: Her band does a song called "Last Picture Show."

"It was the strangest connection," English says. "I had read the book but never seen the movie. When I found out I was working with her (Shepherd), I had to see the movie. Then I found out she was big buddies with Larry McMurtry, and I love him. So it was kind of a neat thing."

"Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith" is the project that brought English and Shepherd together. The movie is about Alice Washington (Shepherd), a divorcee who returns to college as part of a program designed to help women re-enter school. English plays Zoe, a moody 20-year-old who winds up as Alice's roommate.

The chemistry between the two is one of the highlights of the film. English says the camaraderie extended off-camera as well.

"We talked about music a lot," she says. "We would always be singing together and goofing off. She's been a singer her entire life and it's kind of the same for me, so we had that in common."

In fact, much of English's time seems to be spent juggling the two careers. She lives in Los Angeles but is planning to relocate to Nashville. BrokeDown Cadillac is getting ready to tour. And the group appeared on-screen in this year's "Race to Witch Mountain."

"I've had some luck with music lately, so I'm having to prioritize it more," she says. "Music has always been what I've done in my spare time, but when the writers' strike happened, I took the opportunity to record the album and things just fell into place. Acting used to be the priority, but now music is like a real career."

She has had more than luck. Along with Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall, she wrote "Fly Away," which was featured on Sugarland's mega-successful album "Twice the Speed of Life."

English is chatty and open, so it brought up the question: Does a songwriting credit on a triple-platinum album mean you can essentially take a vacation for the next few years?

"Well, royalties have to do with it being on the album and then there's a lyric percentage, and it's all really crazy," she says with a laugh. "They break it down into pennies. If it was a single, it could have paid off a mortgage. As an album cut, it's a really nice bonus."

Nashville and Naked People!

So - I've been posting a lot of press updates and that sort of thing, so I figured I would take a minute to post about what we've been up to! Randy and I are spending the summer in Nashville and loving it. I had forgetten how great southern hospitality is! People are so outgoing here! Not that folks in LA aren't nice, but when I first moved to Cali people gave me an odd look when I would walk up and say hey for no good reason. Here it is the norm! When you put on a blinker, cars let you over instead of speeding up. What???? This is going to take some getting used to! The weather here has been really mild for a southern summer, and I love it - but Randy is definitely having a tougher time adjusting. He's like - um, why are there clouds in the sky? Um....only socal has clear blue skies and warm weather all year man, sorry. And, as a bonus, there are no earthquakes, mudslides, or smog clouds here - maybe an occasional tornado, but I love The Wizard of Oz so I can deal.

I wanted to share a Nashville tidbit that made me want to roll around on the floor when I heard it, it just completely cracks me up. So, there is this roundabout right in the center of town near Music Row....it's pretty much the epicenter of Nashville. A few years back, as a lot of development was going on in this area, a privately funded sculpture was unveiled in the center of the roundabout. The sculpture had been covered by a big ole green tarp and there was all kinds of curiosity about what was under there. About 2000 people turned up for the unveiling, and while Nashville is a pretty hip place, it is still the south, and the majority are pretty conservative christian folk.......When the tarp was removed - low and behold - there stood 5 naked women and four naked men- each 16 feet tall (which would make for some large genitalia, right? I'm just saying....), sort of frolicking around in a circle. The statue, called "Musica" was supposed the convey "the sense of joy and exuberance that music gives us." Supposedly, the point of the nakedness was to make the music timeless, and not "date" the statue. Hmm. I love music, and I don't mind naked people, but even I have to say that is a bit of stretch! Anywho - jaws dropped and comments like this abounded: "This isn't about music.... I cannot recall one instance of people celebrating the sounds of music AND displaying their most private parts at the same." HA!!!!!!!!!! I just love that. When I heard the story, it just sounded like it was straight out of a mockumentary. So - that's all I got for now. More on Nashville later......

Interview with Brokedown Cadillac, 7/28/09

Today, July 28, 2009, you’re going to hear from country band Brokedown Cadillac. This country band released their debut album, “Somewhere In America” in March. They had five songs in the movie “Race to Witch Mountain,” and are performing extensively in the Los Angeles Area. They are also performing September 10 at MacArthur Park as part of their summer concert series.
Sean Arenas: My first question for you today, Corri, is how long has your band been together?
Corri English: Well my partner Randy and I do all the songwriting. We’ve been together for a few years now. We started out playing as an acoustic duo, playing cover songs. We had a residency gig at a club in the valley, in LA. We were performing together for a little while and decided to start writing some music, and that was a couple of years ago. We put the whole band together about a year and a half ago now. That’s when we started playing with the whole band, until then it was just a duo.
SA: That sounds cool, how did you come up with the name for your band?
CE: Well, it was really hard. We looked down our song list for inspiration, and Randy had written a song called Brokedown Cadillac that had been inspired by … sort of what I did. I’m from Atlanta. I was born and raised there, and I kind of threw everything in the back of a car. I had like a guitar and some clothes and not much else and didn’t have a place to live, and looking back, I’m like, wow, what was I thinking? But I just kind of threw all my stuff in the car and took off for the West coast, and thematically that fits with our band; following your dreams, and feeling good, and having fun, and all of that, so we toyed with the idea. I think the song kind of makes sense, the right feel, we kind of like the name, so we settled on Brokedown Cadillac.
SA: Cool, so Brokedown doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing, it’s your sign of moving forward and going on with things.
CE: Yeah, in the song, Brokedown Cadillac, we’re talking about how her dad wants her to take the Ford because it runs better, but she likes the pink leather in the Cadillac. So the brokedown thing is more fun, really, and it’s like she’s on the side of the road but she doesn’t care, she’s going to keep going, she’s going to find a way to go out and follow her dreams anyway, so that was the inspiration behind the song.
SA: What are your musical influences?
CE: Wow, that is a big one for me. My dad is a musician, and so from the time I was a baby, I was travelling with his band. They were primarily a cover band who did original music as well. They did a lot like the Beatles and the Everly Brothers and Bruce Springsteen and all that, but I’m also from Georgia so I also grew up listening to Shania Twain, and the Dixie Chicks; they’re two of my favorite artists. I like all music, but in terms of country, Randy’s favorite band of all time is the Eagles, and that’s one of my favorites of all time too. And it’s interesting cuz the Eagles have a lot of country going on, and they’re not really considered a country band, even though now they are edging more towards that way, but with the country that we do, it’s got a lot of that flavor in there.
SA: Yeah, I think they’re kind of rock/country, and I can hear some rock in your country as well.
CE: Exactly, and it seems like a lot of the new country music is going that way, it’s sort of rock/country.
SA: Right, it catches fans of both genres.
CE: Yeah, definitely.
SA: So, you say you’re from Atlanta, and Randy is from Northern California, so where is the band from?
CE: Well, I guess the band was born in Los Angeles. I’ve been out in LA for the past 6 years, and that’s where I met Randy, and we started playing together. He had been in some other bands in the past, and kind of reached out to some amazing players that he’s worked with in the past, and pulled a great group together.
SA: So you guys are based out of Los Angeles or Nashville right now?
CE: That’s kind of interesting, we’re in transition at the moment, we’ve been based out of Los Angeles, and now just Randy and I are in Nashville for the summer, setting up a homebase here right now, and we’re going to try as much as we can, depending on what happens we’d like to get our whole band out here. We’re really looking to be touring in the south east soon, so probably the next step would be to get the whole band on the road, and be able to actually move them out to Nashville with us, but for now I’m completely happy going back and forth. I’m still working television and film in Los Angeles, so it kind of works out, we’ll see how much time I spend in each city, but there’s so much going on in Nashville in terms of country music that I’m trying to spend a lot of time here right now.
SA: Yeah, I figure a country band would want to live closer to where the music’s heart is.
CE: Definitely, definitely.
SA: So were you in a band before this, or just acting?
CE: I was just acting, but I grew up singing, and I grew up doing all kinds of theatre, musical theatre, and I’ve always been a singer, but this is really my first band. Since I moved to Los Angeles I’ve been really lucky to work consistently in television and film, and there’s been some crazy union issues which I’m sure you know about. So I’ve been writing music with Randy and when the writer’s strike happened with the writer’s union, it was kind of a forced vacation for actors, and we really couldn’t do anything, so we took that time to actually go and record a demo and right about the time the strike was ending, that demo got into the hands of Andy Fickman who directed Race to Witch Mountain, and he loved the music, had us write some stuff for the movie, and actually put us in a scene in the movie. From there some things really started happening for us, it’s opened a lot of doors for us with the band.
SA: You actually answered a future question I was going to ask, which was how you got so much of your music in that movie. It sounds like the writer’s strike actually created an opportunity for you. Just like the economic downturn right now is forcing people out of work, and people have to go into business for themselves or try something new, it sounded like this gave you an opportunity for something new.
CE: Yeah, it did, it was all really lucky timing. It was great to have a little bit of time off. Usually between auditioning and working on films and television, I had been too busy to do anything else, but I had always wanted to take some time to pursue my music career. I wasn’t sure when that was going to happen. This was a perfect opening. Andy Fickman was an acquaintance of mine through my television and film career, and he had come up to see Randy and me play in our acoustic duo gig that I told you about, and asked if we had a demo, and we had it because of the writer’s strike. I don’t think we would have had it otherwise. So we gave it to him, then we got a call from him a couple of weeks later asking if we had a certain type of song, and we said no, but we’d love to write one for you, and he said sure, have at it. We literally played it live for him a week later. We didn’t know exactly what he was planning, and he says I’d love for you guys to be part of my movie. I’d love to use five of your songs, throughout this sequence, and we were just over the moon. We were really starting to test the waters with our original music, and he was our biggest cheerleader, and really played a big part in getting us up on our feet and really moving forward.
SA: Really inspirational story.
CE: Yeah, pretty cool.
SA: What’s your favorite venue to play at?
CE: I think my favorite venue in LA is Molly Malone’s, it’s like an Irish pub. Half of it’s a bar, and then there’s a big music venue on the other half. It’s not a huge place, but it’s a really fun vibe and all of our fans in LA seem to really love that place. It’s where we have the most fun, for whatever reason, so that’s my favorite. Every time we’ve played there, we’ve had a great time, and to me that’s really what it’s about.
SA: That sounds like the place I’m going to check you out when you play there next.
CE: Awesome, awesome, I would love it.
SA: A big trouble for startup bands is that venues always want you to play for free. How did your band get past that stage? I figure in your case, having your music in a movie helped open some of those doors. Did you play for free for a long time?
CE: Well, it’s interesting, a lot of the venues in LA, unless you are a touring band, like on a label, a lot of bands actually have to pay to play. It’s too bad, it’s interesting being here in Nashville where they actually pay you to play, it’s interesting. But we got around doing that by having a little clout with this stuff going on, but what we did have to do in terms of paying our dues is we had to play … you know it’s easier to get the fans out on the weekends, especially Saturday night, no one has to work the next day, and you kind of have to play a Tuesday night to show them that you can fill up the room. From there we’ve been really lucky. Usually the way we play at the local clubs, it’s a percentage at the door. The contracted paid shows are more like festivals and things like that. And privately funded events, even like non-profit organizations, where you’re contracted for a fee, and most of the clubs … I mean, obviously we’re not playing the Staples Center and places like that, mostly it’s small intimate joints and for the most part the places that have country music, it’s all based on how many people you get there. So if you can sell the place out, you’re OK.
SA: My final question for you is, what’s next for your band?
CE: Right now, a big part of being here in Nashville is really, we’re a little backwards, the way we did it. Most country bands would come to the south and start playing grassroots style for the people, and getting a fanbase and a buzz going and getting some licensing and placements and whatnot. Because it’s been out in LA and in the TV and film community, we’ve had some of the placements happen, and now we want to come back to the south and play for where there’s so many country fans. We’re in the early stages of planning a southeastern tour right now that we hope is going to happen by the late Fall, which is very exciting for me because I’m from the south, and playing Atlanta man, that’s going to be fun. The economy has made everything hard right now. Things are really slow in the acting industry, and it’s the same in the music industry. Labels aren’t signing people like they used to, they’re dropping people left and right, so what we’d rather do is do as much as an indy band as we can. I think a lot of bands are doing that right now. By the time we’re ready to sign on with a big label we want our fans to be out there already and to hold on to our creative vision as much as we can. We’re pacing it kind of slow and steady, because I have so many musician friends, whether it’s a publishing deal or a big label deal, that have taken some kind of deal just to take a deal, and then it’s not the right one, and if it’s not the right one, you can end up in huge debt for an album, or not making any money because the label owns everything, so we’re kind of taking baby steps in terms of the business side of it and really just getting in front of our fans as much as we can. We play as many shows as we can, we’re writing music all the time.
SA: So you’re from the South, then you moved to California and you wrote this album while you lived in California. But now you’re moving back to the south, do you think your music is going to change at all?
CE: You know, it’s possible, right now we’re working with a bunch of great songwriters in Nashville, and whenever you get in the room with someone else, it always changes the song a bit. I think always is changing based on what’s happening in your life, but we will always stay true to what we were talking about earlier, this country/rock thing, because this is where our hearts lie. Randy grew up in California but his whole family was from Oklahoma, so he grew up on country music. He also played in rock bands for many years, so he has a rock style that comes through in his writing, and that’s what I gravitate towards as well. So, we always want to stay true to the country side of it with the rock mix. There’s a lot of pop country going on right now. We don’t want to go so far that it’s not country music anymore, and I think that being in the South will help us do that. Being immersed in the southern hospitality and all of that. I guess I really didn’t really answer the question. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens, but we’ll always try to stay true to where our hearts lie in terms of what kind of music we play.
SA: The way you talk about it makes me want to move on down there.
CE: Oh man, you know, I had forgotten how great … not that LA isn’t great, I’ve met some amazing people … but people are so outgoing in terms of their friendliness in the south. You don’t walk by a group of people without them saying hello and asking how your day is going. Just in terms of natural artist community, everybody helps everybody and everyone is welcome with open arms, we’ve met so many people, made so many great friends in the short time that we’ve been here and it’s just awesome.

Introducing BrokeDown Cadillac

Southeastern Charm’s publisher, Kristy Ensor, recently had a chance to catch up with the delightful and talented duo - Corri English and Randy Dunham of the modern country group BrokeDown Cadillac. The two have made their way from L.A. to Music City where they’ll continue pursuing their music career. English, a Georgia native, is also an actress who has lived in L.A., and she says - “Nashville is the best of both worlds coming from L.A. and Atlanta. There’s lots of southern hospitality plus it’s a very artistic town. I love being here.” Dunham, who was born and raised in California, also speaks highly of his new hometown. “People are nice and friendly. There’s openness in the south with dignity and graciousness.”

BrokeDown Cadillac had an exciting opportunity to be a part of the Disney movie Race to Witch Mountain starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It was the movie’s director, Andy Fickman, who was especially instrumental in getting them in the film. This movie was a perfect launching pad for the band to take off. They can be seen performing in a honky-tonk bar in the film. Plus five of their songs can be heard throughout the movie. Two of their songs – “Southern Nights” and “Boogie Woogie Saturday Night” are available on the digital soundtrack from Walt Disney Records.

The fabulous five-piece band has also released its debut album “Somewhere in America.” It’s difficult to believe that the petite Corri English can belt out such strong and pure vocals. “I am really impressed with this band, and I just know they have a bright future,” says Ensor. “Being a big-time country music fan, I’m convinced that BrokeDown Cadillac will soon be topping the charts!”

Celebrity Skin: Corri English

Corri English, actress and lead singer of the modern country band BrokeDown Cadillac is currently starring with Cybill Shepherd in “Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith” airing on the Hallmark Channel on August 1st. This talented beauty is sharing her skincare routine and skincare favorites with us. She’s got great taste in products and really knows how to pamper herself. Check out what she has to say!

What is your skincare routine?

I love waking up and washing my face in really cold water. I’m not sure if you’re supposed to use cold water or not but I love the way it feels and it wakes me up! I use Kiehl’s Yerba Mate Tea Cleanser. It makes my face feel fresh and smells really nice and clean. And I follow up with this awesome product from Dr. Tony Perrone’s 3-step Skin Renewal System. It’s his Antioxidant Anti-Aging Skin Renewal Moisturizer. It gives my skin a great texture and a nice glowy look. And also - I think it is important to remember that what you put on your skin will be absorbed into your body, and his products are 100% natural - so much so that they are edible - how great is that? Hmmm, I am busy with my skin care routine and could use a snack - well, I don’t think that’s quite what he has in mind but pretty cool nonetheless! I have also recently become addicted to MAC’s Fix + for during the day when my skin needs a pick-me-up. It is a spray that you can use even if you have make up on. It wakes your skin up and gives you a really fresh look. At night I wash and moisturize again, and also use Nivea Eye Makeup Remover, then dab on some Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. And My Skin Affair just turned me on to Murad’s Essential-C Night Moisture Cream - and this stuff rocks. It is now an essential part of my nighttime routine. My lips get really dry in the LA air, and I like to make sure I moisturize them at night too, so I use MAC Lip Conditioner (the non-tinted kind). It feels nice but is not too goopy. And to keep my body moisturized I use Body Butter from The Body Shop. Strawberry is my fave.

What are your favorite products?

My favorite lines are Kiehl’s, MAC, and Giorgio Armani. I mentioned some of the Kiehl’s and MAC products earlier, and Armani makes great, light foundations . It feels like you have nothing on! It’s what I like to use when I’m on set because I don’t break out when I use their products, even when I am in makeup 24/7. I use the Lasting Silk UV Foundation and the Face Fabric. I also love Stila’s tinted moisturizer. When I don’t feel like putting on makeup, a few dabs of this make me feel like I don’t need anything else.

What’s in your purse?

I have way too much stuff in my purse, it takes me 10 minutes to find a darn thing in there! But I always have hand sanitizer - Purell right now, and it smells good. The scent is “Crisp Apple.” Also some hand lotion, I love Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Hand Cream in Eucalyptus Spearmint. It is supposed to be for stress relief, so if you see me sniffing my hands, you know why! And my other favorite hand cream is Jaqua’s in “Pink Buttercream Frosting.” Yum!! I’m not sure if lip gloss is considered skin care, but I feel like it is for me because it is my alternative to chap stick. I like to have something on my lips at all times so that they don’t feel dry. I probably have 6 or 7 lip glosses in my purse at any given moment. I mean, who knows what shade of pink a girl may need at any given moment, right? My faves are Lancome Juicy Tubes, Stila Lip Glaze, and my all time number one is Armani Lip Shimmer. It rocks! If I had to choose one lip gloss (god forbid!!!)…this would be it.

How do you pamper your skin?

I am a huge believer in facials. I have a great facialist who does some great peels that make my skin glow. And massages…oh man, I live for deep-tissue massages! I like to get them a couple of times a month. I like to exercise a lot and it is great for my muscles and also great for my soul. I always feel so relaxed afterwards, and I think relieving stress is extremely important in keeping your skin looking great.

Is there any product that makes you feel especially spoiled rotten?

A friend just bought me a body scrub by La Licious in “Sugar Kiss Souffle” that makes me feel totally spoiled. Just smelling it makes me feel spoiled actually. It smells like dessert! I don’t often take time out for a bath and a scrub so when I do it’s a treat.

Do you have a favorite spa?

I love Burke Williams. I have been to a few different ones in LA and have had a great experience every time. I leave feeling like a noodle and I love it. And my facialist works at a spa called “New You” in Encino, Ca. She gives a very clinical facial. It is hard core! Not always enjoyable but I swear I stay blemish free for a year after a session with her. Go see Irene if you need to get your skin cleared up. She is the master!

Favorite spa treatment?

That is an easy one for me. Hands down it would be a full body massage - usually deep tissue. I also love mani/pedi’s!

Favorite tip/advice for skincare?

My number one tip would be to find a great moisturizer and use it often. Dry skin makes you look older, and makes it very difficult to get nice, glowing skin. Even if you have trouble with acne, it is important to moisturize. It is much easier to cover up a blemish than to hide flaky, cracked skin. And it will keep you looking young too!

When you mention a co-write with Sugarland, I immediately think good things. And when you say you’ve had some songs and a performance scene in a Disney movie (Race to Witch Mountain), even better. So here’s BrokeDown Cadillac, a newish country duo that’s been on an almost-famous journey for a while. But I think where they’ve landed now, after a handful of acting gigs and that early writing session with Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall (resulting in “Fly Away” from Sugarland’s debut album), is the best place for them. While country has plenty of frontmen and women and a good portion of trios, it seems like there’s a void in the duo category. Corri English and Randy Dunham front this band, and their debut single, “Baby’s Gonna Start a Fire,” will be just right for any country fan who likes the feisty side of Miranda Lambert and the blazing-guitars side of Keith Urban.

Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith!

Hey Guys! Back in February, I had the chance to be a part of a film called Mrs. Washington Goes to Smith! I co-star with Cybill Shepherd and Jeffrey Nordling and had an absolute blast working on this project - I learned how to ride a vespa and how to play a Chopin piece (my only previous piano experience having been chopsticks and heart and soul!), it was pretty exciting stuff for me. The movie will premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday August 1st 9pm/8c. Here is a video from when we were on location!

MINT CONDITION: BROKEDOWN CADILLAC FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS!

5/14/09 Last night, California-based Country quintet Brokedown Cadillac – fueled by songwriting duo Corri English (lead vocals) and Randy Dunham (guitar, harmony vocals) – played famed Los Angeles venue The Mint, and once again proved they are a well-oiled musical machine indeed! Kick starting their set with "Chasing the Moon," English – whose powerful pipes defy her pint-sized frame – and Dunham tore through tunes off their debut album, Somewhere In America, including "Baby's Gonna Start a Fire," "Girl With a Broken Heart," "Big City," "Last Picture Show," and "Scarlett O'Hara," closing with the eponymous album opener, "Brokedown Cadillac." The set was also peppered with songs found on the soundtrack to Disney's Race To Witch Mountain, in which the band makes a cameo appearance, playing in a honky-tonk bar. Take Brokedown Cadillac for a test drive now at a honky-tonk bar or small club before they kick into high gear and play arenas nationwide.

BrokeDown Cadillac Up and Coming Country Band at The Mint

Several weeks ago, I spent an evening listening to Country Music at the historic mid-city The Mint nightclub, a bar and small plates restaurant on Pico Blvd. This was an intimate venue to see performers who were just starting out or had been performing for decades. The entire evening had caught my attention being able to see 3 sets of performers, each with unique styles. Opening at 8 pm was Chuck Mead, a multi-decade perfomer with his rockability style, who had recently launched a solo career. Next were the country-punk women, Smith and Pyle, two thirty-something Hollywood actors, creating a parallel music career. And then at 10 pm, and joking about looking to be under 21, Corri English also with a long Hollywood resume, lead singer for BrokeDown Cadillac, a group that had been discovered by Disney in Burbank and then featured in the recent film Race to Witch Mountain. Finally, there was a 4th performer that evening, but I needed to call it a night at 11 pm. I bought a CD from each performer to add to my diverse iTunes shuffled Country Music playlist.

BrokeDown Cadillac reminded me of falling in love with Gaelic Storm, a Celtic band, that gained international exposure, and a major break for their career, in the box-office smash Titanic. This week, Race to Witch Mountain after opening in March 2009 will break $100 million in world-wide box office, which should help BrokeDown Cadillac in building a base of loyal fans. BrokeDown Cadillac is a three year old partnership of Corri English from Atlanta, Georgia, and California native, Randy Dunham. Corri provides the vocals and co-song writing, with Randy writing songs and playing lead guitar. While listening to them, I wondered whether this was the beginning of a group like Sugarland. It was only later after reading Corri's official bio that I learned that she had co-wrote Sugarland's big hit, Fly Away from their debut CD. Corri as an actor has many screen credits that can be found on Internet Movie Database and Randy as an accomplished songwriter/musician has penned several screenplays and novels.

Corri English making use of her native Georgia accent with the country-rock sound provides the signature sound for BrokeDown Cadillac on their same named tune, BrokeDown Cadillac. A song that people should buy and download on iTunes, from their recently released debut CD "Somewhere in America." This was not the first time the five member BrokeDown Cadillac has played The Mint, as you can find several of their prior Mint performances on YouTube with links from BrokeDown Cadillac website. These videos show the great stage prescence of Corri English - must be that training as an actress. However, she did comment, during her May 2009 performance at The Mint, that having to follow Missi Pyle over the top stage performance style, was not going to be easy. Corri then picked up Missi's jacket that had accidentally been left on stage, and asked the audience what they thought? Should I put it on? Then she modeled it, performed with it on, and then set it aside.

I look forward to returning to The Mint for other Country music performances and since BrokeDown Cadillar and Smith and Pyle are both LA based, I suspect they will return again. However, BrokeDown Cadillac, as they become better known, will be seen in larger venues, and their music will begin to appear on mainstream Country radio and TV. So.....we've got a super fun show coming up at The Mint. It's a great line up - we're headlining with Smith and Pyle -Shawnee Smith and Missi Pyle's band - they are some talented, hysterical hottie mamma's, you'll love em. You can check them out at www.smithandpyle.com. AND- I'll be celebrating my birthday - 21 baby, yeah! I'll take my first sip of booze ever, woohoo! Anyone fooled.......anyone....?

The night goes like this - Chuck Mead at 8pm, Smith and Pyle at 9pm, us at 10pm and Paul Chesne Band at 11pm. It is $12 at the door BUT if you print the flyer (the event pic) it's only $8. Or you can pre-order your tickets for $10 at www.themintla.com. Which is not a bad idea as our last show sold out!
Is that too many options? Hmm. Probably.

True Country

We had the chance to sit down with the folks at True Country yesterday and had a good ole time! I don't know if you're familiar with True Country, but if you're not you will be soon! It is a website, blog, youtube channel, and iphone application where you can get the latest country news and performances by fancy folks and up and comers alike. It's really cool - I've had the iphone app for awhile now and I love it, you should definitely check it out! And the channel is growing like crazy. They just added a facebook page as well - which includes the full album of photos from our session yesterday!

We did a 30 min. interview with True Country's host, Kristyn - who was great! And then we did a 2 song acoustic performance. The site includes photos and info about us on the front page right now, and the interview and performance will be up soon!

Hey Everyone! So- it's been an eventful few weeks! First of all - Race to Witch Mountain is #1 at the box office! It opened this weekend to a booty-kickin 25 million, and for good reason - the movie is AWESOME! The band attended the premier last Wednesday, and played the premier party - I'm including some pics from the red carpet and the show. We had an abosolute blast and are so proud to be a part of this amazing film. The film is funny and scary and sweet - just great!
AND- the soundtrack for the film is now available on iTunes - we have 2 songs on it, so we are very pumped about that, go download it!
In other exciting news, we have just released our debut album! It's called Somewhere In America and you can order it from our website - www.brokedowncadillac.net. We are really proud of it and hope you like it too! We had a big cd release party at Molly Malone's this past Saturday, tons of folks came out and we had ourselves a good ole time!

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a fantastic holiday - sorry it's been so long since I've posted, I've vowed to be better about it in 2009. Now, for starters, to catch you all up on some things.....we didn't win the Hollywood Music Award, in fact, it was a bit of a debacle - we stood in the red carpet line for 2 hours, then they closed it when we were next, and they announced our category while we were still stuck outside. It was the first year of this awards show so I supposed that accounts for the disorganization. Whatever the case, we got ourselves some cocktails and had a good ole time! Here's a photo of the band (minus Don, he had to work) at the awards show.....

Meanwhile, we had some songs placed on the CW show "Valentine," created by Kevin Murphy and starring the lovely Christine Lakin among others......the show is awesome - the episodes are now available on TV.com, check it out - just click the link for "Valentine Episodes" over to the right.

We played a show with Zac Brown band at The Mint in December and had an absolute blast - the guys in the band couldn't have been cooler, and they were some of the best musicians I have ever seen. They did a version of "Devil Went Down to Georgia" and they did it at warp speed - it was insane! I couldn't believe how fast the fiddle player's hands were moving. Just freakin amazing. The crowd was great - totally high energy, and we even had a bunch of line dancers for our set. Good times!! Zac even asked us for a cd so we were pretty pumped about that - Zac - if you're reading this - we'll play with you any time you want buddy!! haha......

Hmmm, lets see....we then all headed off for the holidays to visit our families, and since we've been back we've been spending a lot of time in the studio recording our album. We hope to have it finished up in the next 6 weeks, can't wait for you all to hear it - we're very proud of the songs.

We're also gearing up for the Race to Witch Mountain premiere. I'm sure you've been seeing all of the billboards and posters everywhere - amazing right? It will be in theaters March 13th. I've seen a screening of the film and I was so impressed - it is an amazing movie, and I still can't believe we're a part of this amazing film! I've posted a link to the official website - if you haven't seen the trailer yet, check it out, you'll be blown away!! We've also just signed on with a publisict for the band - Mitch Schneider PR - they are amazing, they represent some of the coolest artists in the biz (from Dolly Parton to Aerosmith and Ozzy!) - and also happen to be supercool people. BDC with Zac Brown Band!

Hey Guys!

Hope everyone is doing great....we've been busy in the studio working on our album, can't wait for you all to hear it! I wanted to give you a heads up about a show that we're very excited about - we'll be playing Wednesday, December 10th at The Mint with the Zac Brown Band (www.myspace.com/zacbrownband). For those of you who aren't that familiar with country music, these guys are huge - they've got the #3 country single right now, "Chicken Fried," behind Carrie Underwood & Taylor Swift - Plus they're from my hometown - Atlanta, so I'm very excited to be playing with them. And they've got an awesome live show.....they play at 8:00 and we go on after them at 10:00. If you tell them you're there to see BrokeDown you can get in for eight dollars (otherwise it will be twenty)! The club is at 6010 W. Pico Blvd, at the corner of Crescent Heights and Pico, and it's 21 and up. It's gonna be a fun night - hope you can make it!

The five of us will be attending the awards ceremony which takes place on November 20th in Hollywood. Keep your fingers crossed for us, we're up against some great bands! We played The Mint last Tuesday and I'm posting a couple of brand new songs from the show- hope you like them!! Just FYI- during the first song, you'll see me reaching behind my back several times....Randy and I wear in-ear monitors when we play so that we can hear our vocals, and I was having trouble with the volume on mine, although maybe I should just make that my signature move, hmmm?

Hey guys! So, we had a show last Wednesday (August 20th) at The Mint....it was a lot of fun and thank you to everyone who came out to see us! I'm posting some clips from the show.....the sound is a little funky so I apologize for that! The last clip is me singing with Michael O'Neill - he's an amazing musician and also just such a nice person - after the show, Randy and I had a little love fest about Michael and how cool he is. Photo Shoot

Hey everyone! So...we were long overdue to take some new photos, so we rounded up our go-to photographer - the amazing Inda Reid, and Samantha Brooke - make-up artist extrordinaire...and headed out to the desert - to El Mirage dry lake bed to be exact. It was about a two hour drive from L.A., so Randy stocked us up with some food and drinks and we headed out. I took my camera with me with every intention of documenting the photo shoot, however, it was about 110 degrees, the wind was insane, and it was all we could do to keep our eyes open for the photos - the lake bed is almost white, so the reflection is intense. I did get some footage that I find pretty funny though, so I put together a little video that you'll find below. Despite the crazyness, the photos came out amazing! I must say, Inda is a mad genius! If you ever need photos, head to www.indafoto.com, she can do pretty much anything, no joke. She is also just a really cool person - I can vouch for that cause, well, I live with her. She's my roommate. How lucky am I? We had a lot of fun, it felt almost like we were off camping, well actually I've never looked that good while camping, but anywho- we headed home tired, sunburned, and stuffed full of goldfish and string cheese.....and of course went straight to Senior Fred's for margaritas. It was a good day.

Is freaking AWESOME!! Randy & I are so happy to have these guys with us. Randy used to be in a punk band called HighSchool Logic, and Danny Reuland (far left) was his drummer, so we brought him onto this project. He's a great drummer and the ladies love him! He's gonna kill me for saying that.... Randy had also played with our bass player - Jeff LeGore, (second from right) in a band called Pretty Sneaky Sis, and Jeff plays in a band called Psychedelic Cowboys with our guitar player, Don Ian (far right). Did that all make sense? Anyway, we're thrilled to be playing with them.

So, to catch you up - here's a little about us... my partner- Randy Dunham- and I met several years ago at Burbank Bar & Grille, he was playing a resident gig there as an acoustic duo with a girl, and I joined him when his partner headed off to Broadway. We began playing together and discovered a mutual love for country music (I'm from Georgia and his family's roots are in Oklahoma), and began writing songs. Just this past fall of '08, we headed to Atlanta to record with Jan Smith, a kickass vocal producer, and recorded a 4 song EP. In February, director Andy Fickman heard us play and asked for a demo- a week later he asked us to write a dance song for him. We did, and he then offered us a role in Disney's Race To Witch Mountain, which he directed. We had a ball on the movie- we recorded 5 songs with producer Jamie Houston, and were also featured in a performance sequence - we are the band in the Honky Tonk Bar...and we got to work with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The movie has opened a lot of doors for us, and we are now playing out at all the LA venues and some outside of LA as well. We've got a lot of things cooking, we're working our tails off, and we're lovin every minute!
